I have been using these for years in customers homes.
Recently the package states made in China, since then I can definitely see a difference in the quality. I have an older one to do side by side.
The tip on the hook is now butt instead of tapered which makes a big difference in the ease of hooking the eye. I went to install 1 at a customer today and the rivet POPPED OUT ! This is a Baldwin device and is supposed to be a superior, high quality product and the thing came apart right out of the package. The people at Baldwin should be ashamed of themselves for letting the name tarnish along with the quality of their products!!
We are pleased with it. We saved $5 compared to the local ritzy hardware store and the product is high quality. We did not have the problem with the screws another reviewer mentioned.

item is nice however better bring your own screws when installing this "FANCY BALDWIN LATCH". EVERY SCREW HEAD SNAPPED OFF EVEN THOUGH I DRILLED PILOT HOLES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! ESPECIALLY SINCE PAYING A PREMIUM FOR THE "BALDWIN" NAME. THIS HAPPENED ON A FEW LOCKS THAT I PURCHASED. QUALITY CONTROL SHOULD BE BETTER!
