Plug it in and let it do it's job. Don't keep it too close to your area of activity since it does make a startling loud zap if it gets a big bug, and it draws the pests away from you. I got a plant hanger to hang it off the side of the house. You can hang it out on a pole in the yard if you want, however, remember you need to get an outdoor extension cord long enough to go where you want it.

The mosquitoes in our area are nasty. (If I tell you a local park is called Mosquito Park does that give you a clue to how bad it is?)
Although many experts say bug zappers are ineffective against mosquitoes, I have to disagree. We got our 1/2 acre Stinger Bug Zapper 2 summers ago and it has drastically reduced the number of mosquito bites.
We placed it in the middle of our back yard and it's on 24/7. Before buying the unit, I didn't go outside unless it was unavoidable. I now claim my yard as my own.
My only frustration is I had to go on-line to buy a replacement bulb after 2 summers of use.
